Organizational History:

In 1983, Post suffered a "triple whammy" with the loss of its only industry, economic farming and ranching disasters and a distressed oil business. The Caprock Cultural Association, a 501-(c3) organization was formed to create, organize, and activate the arts and cultural resources. Post also became a Texas Main Street City, a program designed to upgrade, beautify the downtown area and promote tourism.

The CCA’s grant applications helped fundraising activities to develop an Art Center in the old 1907 Algerita Hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We persuaded Will McCrary, a professional actor to produce summer plays in 1986, Will’s vision of his own theatre emerged and with astounding energy and creativity, he renovated the Old Palace Movie House into The Garza Theatre. Will's spirit continued after his death in 1991, and the Garza Theatre continues the tradition of quality family stage presentation.

The Caprock Cultural Association Building, next door to the Art Center on Main Street, is our office, meeting area, and serves as extra exhibit space for the Art Center. Randy White, professional artist and collector, helped renovate the upper floor for living quarters. since Randy moved the apartment is now managed with new improvements by Jim and Janet Plummer of "Hotel Garza"

A a long "battle with bats" caused a four year closure of the Garza County Historical Museum. The CCA assumed management in 1990 and with bat control, reopened the Museum. Currently, we are working for complete Museum renovation.

The CCA is affidated with the Texas Alliance for Education and the Arts, The Texas Commission on the Arts, The Texas Association of Museums, and The Texas Historical Commission.
